Create a 3D object from a 2D drawing

I have a 2D drawing, for example a star, and I want to convert it to a 3D object (add thickness to it) and use it within Balder.  How can I accomplish this without an ASE model?

Balder doesn't have any conversion to support this. But there are tools that can convert an image into vector and then you can import the vector objects into a 3D modeling software and extrude it to add depth.

Adobe had a tool to do edge detection and create vector graphics out of it, can't remember what its called. But I'm sure there are several tools out there that can do that and export it as AI or similar that the 3D modeling software can import.
