ASE files Issue

Hello there,

First of all let me say that this is one of the greatest libraries I've ever seen... Now going to the point, I've been doing some test to handle the ASE files for Balder in Silverligth. I've also used the samples that you poseted (AudiSkin); however, When I create the a 3D desing (using 3DSMax 9) and export it to ASE it just don't work in Balder if it has Materials added (like jpg's bitmaps or textures). SO the question is how did you created the audiskin? or what tool do you use for convertions?

Thanks a lot in advance and keep going with the proyect

Thanks for the kind words.

The problem might be in were you put the JPEG files. They need to be in the same folder in the project as the ASE file.

If that doesn't resolve it, could you attach your project to this issue? With all the files you're trying out.

Thanks a lot for the attention,

I'm I think I didn't explain myself, first of all, I forgot to mention that the proyect runs very well for any 3D figure or object created in Autodesk 3DS MAX 9 (like sphere or something) so I tried to do something like you did with your CAR.ASE sample (...\SLARToolkit-53175\trunk\SLARToolKit\Source\SLARToolKitBalderSample) "and here is where I got completely lost"... so I'm going to tell you what I'm doing to create my file:

1.- I create a 3D (a Plane).
2.- I added a Material to insert a bitmap (a JPG file), here I used the command ...............(Autodesk 3ds Max -> Rendering -> Material Editor -> Bitmap -> file.jpg).

3.- I export the file to ASE ...............(Autodesk 3ds Max -> File -> Export).

and that's pretty much what I do for exporting my files... Besides, I have another question: why does the audiski.jpg file (in the SLARToolKitBalderSample) looks like that, I mean is the car a 3d object or is it a set of Planes and they just have attached the car parts that appear in the jpg?

I'm really a beginer in this 3D stuffs, and I really apreciate your help

Thanks again :)

Your procedure should be OK. Then you need to take both the ASE file and the JPEG file and add it to your Silverlight project.

If you add a folder called Assets in the root of the project and drag'n'drop the files in there and set the ASE file to be a resource, then try using it, it should pick up the JPEG file.

The reason the texture looks like it does is that its been optimized by the graphics artist so one does not have to load many different texture files. The 3D model just references the one texturemap and then uses mapping coordinates within that texture file to map onto its faces.

Hope this helps.

ohhh!!! I see... so it shouldn't matter if I use several jpg's files for the texture as long as they have been used for texture my desing right?

Thanks so much, for the help :) and I hope to keep in contact with u guys... :)

Ok, now it's working :)... However, I was wondering if the texture can be inproved... I'm sending you my.

I found your mail (einar [at] dolittle [dot] com) in a post here, I hope you don't mind...

And finally, can you give me a clue to search about placing several textures in a jpg file??
