File formats

Can you tell me the file formats that Balder uses now? I'd like to use Autodesk Maya or 3DS Max. If Balder file format isn't supported by Autodesk file formats I'd consider writing my own with your assistance if you can advise if it's viable in the current state of Balder.

Balder supports basically 4 formats today, with one of the formats being the most complete support for; namely ASE - Autodesks ASCII Scene Export format. In addition there is support for 3DS, although not 100% complete yet, but takes geometries and details around that, but is missing material definitions. In addition there is support for Collada and an XML format called Demoniak. 

The support is best in the MajorRefactoring branch, and if you're looking for SL5 support - that is also the branch with the most recent development there and the branch that will eventually become the default branch.
